Captain Steven Hill assumed his duties as Atlantic Area’s Reserve Chief of Staff in July 2020 following his tour as Commanding Officer of the Coast Guard Reserve Unit at Headquarters U.S. Southern Command in Doral, FL. Prior to that assignment, he served as the Deputy Chief of Staff and Senior Reserve Officer of the Eighth Coast Guard District headquartered in New Orleans, Louisiana where he was mobilized for Hurricanes Harvey and Irma.
Other reserve assignments include Senior Reserve Officer of Sector Mobile, Executive Officer of Coast Guard Reserve Unit U.S. Southern Command where he mobilized for Operation Unified Response following the 2010 earthquake in Haiti, and Headquarters U.S. Central Command in Tampa, FL, where he served as the Coast Guard Senior Reserve Officer during Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom. He is also a plank owner of Sector Miami.
Active duty assignments include Telecommunication and Information Systems Command (TISCOM) in Alexandria, VA, and U.S. Coast Guard Cutter DURABLE (WMEC-628), homeported in St. Petersburg, FL, where he participated in Operations Able Manner, Support Democracy, and Uphold Democracy.
A native of Clearwater, Florida, Captain Hill graduated from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in 1993 where he double majored in Electrical Engineering and Math/Computer Science with high honors. He later graduated with a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering, and then completed a Master of Business Administration degree, both from the University of Florida. He has also attended classes at National Defense University in Washington, D.C. and the Naval War College in Newport, RI.
Captain Hill’s military awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal (2), the Coast Guard Meritorious Service Medal, the Coast Guard Commendation Medal (2), the Joint Service Achievement Medal, the Coast Guard Achievement Medal, and the Commandant’s Letter of Commendation.
